Setting Up Stripe to Receive Payments

Connect your Stripe account to collect team expenses and marketplace earnings through PlayerAid.

To collect payments from players or clients through PlayerAid — whether for team expenses, training sessions, or marketplace bookings — you need to connect a Stripe account. Stripe is the payment processor that powers all PlayerAid transactions.

Who Needs This

You need Stripe Connect if you are:

  • A coach who wants to collect team expenses from players
  • A marketplace provider listing services and accepting bookings

Athletes who only pay expenses do not need to set up Stripe.

What Is Stripe Connect?

Stripe Connect is how PlayerAid sends money to coaches and service providers. When a player or client pays through the app, the funds flow through Stripe's secure network and are deposited into your connected bank account.

PlayerAid does not hold your money — Stripe sends it directly to you, typically within 2–7 business days of a completed transaction (depending on your Stripe payout schedule).

Starting the Setup

  1. Go to Settings → Payments → Connect with Stripe
  2. Tap Get Started
  3. You'll be taken to Stripe's secure onboarding flow in your browser

What Stripe Needs

Stripe requires the following to verify your identity and enable payouts:

Personal Information

  • Legal first and last name
  • Date of birth
  • Last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN) or Tax ID

Business Information (if applicable)

  • Business name and structure (sole proprietor, LLC, etc.)
  • Business address

Bank Account

  • Bank name, routing number, and account number — or the option to link via your bank's login

All of this information is handled directly by Stripe, not PlayerAid. PlayerAid only stores a reference to your Stripe account, not your personal financial details.

Completing Onboarding

Work through each step in Stripe's flow. The process typically takes 5–10 minutes. At the end:

  • Stripe verifies your information (usually instant, sometimes up to 24 hours)
  • You're returned to PlayerAid and your account shows Stripe Connected

If verification is pending, you'll see a status indicator in Settings → Payments. You can still create expenses and listings while verification is in progress, but payouts won't be released until it's complete.

Accessing Your Stripe Dashboard

Once connected, you can view your full transaction history, payout schedule, and account details in the Stripe Dashboard:

  1. Go to Settings → Payments → Open Stripe Dashboard
  2. The Stripe Dashboard opens in your browser

From the dashboard you can:

  • View all incoming payments
  • See your payout history and upcoming payouts
  • Update your bank account
  • Download tax documents (e.g., 1099-K)

Common Questions

Is there a fee for using Stripe? Stripe charges standard processing fees (typically 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction). PlayerAid may also charge a platform fee for marketplace transactions, which is disclosed before you accept bookings.

How long do payouts take? By default, Stripe pays out on a 2-day rolling basis after your first 7–14 day initial payout delay. You can adjust your payout schedule in the Stripe Dashboard.

What if my Stripe verification fails? Stripe will email you with details on what's needed. Common issues include mismatched name/SSN or a bank account that can't be verified. Contact Stripe support or reach out to us at support@playeraid.org for help.

Do I need a business bank account? No. A personal checking account works for most individual coaches and trainers. You'd only need a business account if you're operating as a registered business entity.
